CBD in Europe: what the regulations say
The regulatory landscape for cannabidiol products in Europe is multilayered. It involves the EU Novel Food Regulation (EU) 2015/2283, national medicines authorities such as the AEMPS, and the guidelines of national drug-monitoring agencies.
The practical outcome: the product category and how it is presented to the consumer determine which regulation applies in each case. The 0.2% THC limit applies to industrial hemp cultivation across the EU and is the reference used by most European regulatory bodies.
At Chakanna our products are marketed with the category, declared use and analytics that correspond to each formulation. We never present them as medicines or food supplements unless they hold the corresponding authorisation.

How to read a COA
The Certificate of Analysis (COA) for each batch answers specific questions about the product in your hands.
% CBD and total mg
Confirms that the actual concentration matches what is declared on the packaging.
Cannabinoid profile
Shows CBG, CBN, CBC and other minor cannabinoids. Decisive in full‑spectrum extracts.
THC level
The most checked figure. It must appear explicitly with the exact value measured in the laboratory.
Heavy metals & pesticides
Certifies cultivation cleanliness. Essential in concentrated extracts where contaminants are amplified.
Batch number
Links the COA to the physical product. Without it, the analysis could correspond to a different batch.
Ingredients vs. label
The COA must match the product sheet. Any discrepancy is a warning sign.
